Baby its cold outside! I woke up today to the sound of children screaming and squealing. Suddenly, accutely alert of the fact that all this screaming could in fact be a sign of danger to my coffee, I jumped from my warm duvet and the confines of sleep and promptly checked on the coffee.. then the children. Ofcourse, one might think that my priorities are a bit fucked up there, trust me they are not. For you see without the java, I am a much worse person , Mother included. Finding all my stashes of coffee safe and the pot still in tact (least as much as priorly) I went to investigate as to the topic of this most unnerving matter. Grumbling as I found nothing more then the normal sibling spat going on, Lisa alerted me as to the time. I threw on a pair of shorts and a tank top and marched outside, to drive Lisa to her last day of high school. And what did I discover much to my dismay? Yes, it was only in the 40's outside. Every single part of my body sprang to full attention and the parts that did not began to shiver. I did not have time to run back inside and change, so thusly I endured this cold torture. The moment I got home, I jumped back in bed and under the warm duvet. Where I proceded to spend the entire rest of the morning. Life be damned! I was cold, depressed and had no obligations to do anything other then go back to bed, turning my back to the world. Making sure it stayed this way, I also unplugged my telephone! I crawled out from my self imposed banishment from the world when the kids got home from school! I took a shower, plugged the phone back in and returned all my messages. One of which was a warning that Steve is being discharged from the hospital and I must go pick him up, another being from a friend at school reminding me that I promised to show up at the school xmas party. Which I do not remember promising or even discussing but what the hell. I dressed in warm clothing, applied light makeup and off I was to venture back into the winter weather which I so avidly try to avoid. I picked Steve up from the hospital first. Which was funny because while we waited for the central line to be removed from his arm and transport to come wheel him down, he got a visitor. Bob Hall. Bob invited Steve to church on Sunday morning. Bob is the pastor, he and his wife are also all of our childrens god parents. However, he invited steve then looks over at me and says, "uh if you want to go too, you are welcome." Yes, I am about as welcome as a jew in a camp of muslims. So I politely responded "(insert small chuckle) yeah, thanks for the offer". So now I have to tell Steve that we have to stop by the school to make a quick appearance at the xmas party. He was fine with that as he wanted too go anyhow. So we arrive at the school, and there is just too much damn hugging going on for my liking. Everyone decides that its a holiday so they need to hug one another? WTF? Ooog, after about 6 hugs, I was done. I didn't want anyone else touching me. But no luck. Not only was there another 2 hugs to come but a kiss too boot. My friend had misletoe (sp) and being that he is much taller then I , had no problem holding it up over my head. After said kiss, Steve whispers in my ear "when did you two go to kissing terms?" I just ignored him. But I was done for the moment at this party, I wanted to leave, making polite excuses we headed out. Then Steve took me out for a really nice dinner. He decided to spring for my favorite steak house and he was in a good mood. Perhaps being stuck in the hospital for 10 days? 9 days? I dunno, for a week and a half is good for someones attitude. After supper, which was omg delicious (I had a 8 oz prime rib, broccolli and a salad) we picked up several decks of playing cards and came home. Alex and Richard stopped by, they gave me a huge microwave that was the wrong color for Alex's kitchen. Very nice.. as I only had a small one. Showed off Alex's new Trail Blazer , which is beautiful. Then they left. Lisa, Steve and I played cards for a while. They just went to pick up some donuts and a cup of coffee from dunkin donuts. Donuts for the kids in the morning and coffee for me for now! Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm |
