Tutoring
2:43 p.m. - 2003-11-03

School was interestng today. We had some difficult programs to write. One was for a mock airline, we had to gather from the end-user whether they wanted first class or coach, then assign them a seat, obvisiously each seat had to be numbered, if either class ran out we had to ask if they would take a seat in the other class, if not redirect them to another flight. Well I suppose it sounds easy, but lets put it this way, you get your computer to do that on just code you write.. hehe. This was after a couple of other somewhat simplier programs, like one that did a fibonacci sequence. Well, as much as I was enjoying putting my brain to good use.. the idiot gets up and walks out of the classroom. I actually did not notice him leave, cus well I don't pay him no mind in school. Actually, other then Crystal and only cus she is one of my best friends, I don't pay anyone any mind in my classes unless I have too. So I can't say how long idiot was gone, but when he returned, he was grinning from ear to ear. This is always a bad sign. He announced to me that I was officially his new tutor for this class C++ and for Visual C++.

I gave him a "Are you fucking stupid?" look and waited for him to continue. Apparently, he had gone to the department chair, Steve S., and asked for a tutor. Only, there wasn't one available for these classes so they collaborated and determined that I most likely had the best grip on the stuff and would be the best suited to tutor not just idiot but anyone who needed so. Instead of asking me, they arranged it around me. Hmpf. I got up and walked out without a word. I went straight to academics office, where they (Dept Chair Steve, and academics coordinator, Patty) were discussing this matter. When I walked in another teacher, Ms.Lanier said "speak of the devil, herself!" I grumbled. So I stood there staring at these people, while they proceeded to inform me of how I was elected the new tutor for these two classes etc. I was very polite, I waited til they were done talking or they noticed the lack of response on my behalf. Whichever, didn't matter much to me. After they were done sucking up and trying to compliment my intelligence, which was actually insulting my intelligence. Cus I am smart enough to know when someone is just saying shit due to the fact they want something. I explained myself this way " Patience is a virtue and I never claimed to be a virtious woman. In light of that, combined with murder 1 is a felony, do NOT I repeat Do NOT ever sign me up to tutor the idiot, for that matter Stop signing me up to tutor anyone. I have not even gotten through this class yet muchless am qualified to teach it... and even if I could, I don't want to work with the mentally handicapped like the idiot." They all but Ms.Lanier stared at me with a slack jaw expression. Ms.Lanier laughed. She has had idiot in her class and understood perfectly. So Steve S. asks me why I am so opposed to tutoring the idiot. I explained to him, that he would understand the first time he has a class with him , then I gave him an example. I said " If I tell you that one of the commands in C++ to gather a value from the end user for a variable, the code is cin>> (variable name) you just learned something.. telling idiot that would generate the question "Why?" and my response is because that is the command in C++ to get outside values to assign to a variable...the idiot would say "I dont understand , why?". Then I would have to throw a shoe at him and remind him that there IS such a thing as stupid questions and 98% of his are stupid. So Steve S. decides to try to convince me that all I need is a little patience.. to which I referred back to the virtue remark. Hence, I shant be tutoring because I refuse too. I know that makes me a bitch, I don't care. So I returned to the classroom and told the idiot I had taken care of that matter. He wasn't thrilled with how I took care of it and whined that he needs help, so Keil, who is the Professor for the class, offerred to help him after classes. Which well is his job afterall.. he is getting paid to teach this class. And he has much more patience then I.

Speaking of Keil, he got cursed out by this woman with parkinsons the other day. I found this out when Crystal and I went on break. We were outside smoking a cigarette and this lady comes up and says "Hi Pen" (Nope I don't know her name, shes most likely told me it in the past and she always says hi and stuff to me when she sees me, but did I mention I don't pay mind to most the people there unless I have too?) And she proceeds to tell us about how Keil was going to fast for her and how she has a hard time typing or writing fast due to her constant twitching and stuff. So she got mad and told him Fuck you and walked out. She changed to a different class with a different instructor. She was making my brain cramp. In her opinion the whole class should wait on her disability and go only as fast as she is capable. In my opinion that is bullshit. While I understand and agree with making some exception and giving her personally as much room for her capablities as possible, I do not agree with it coming at the price of every student in her class. If she wants to be treated like everyone else, then she needs to overcome this on her own, not ask everyone else to compromise their education. The Dept chair Steve S. holds 3 Masters degrees and is working on his doctorate. He is confined to a wheelchair, his hands are crippled into almost fists, he is paralyzed from a car accident that occurred when he was 17 years old. If he can do what he does and better then most people that are not handicapped, I have no real empathy for this girl who wants everything slowed down for the whole class. See she refused the offer to have lessons at her pace, she wanted the class to all go at her pace. Sometimes people make no sense.

So Keil is actually sensitive about this incident with her. It is great that he is compassionate but why feel bad over her shitty attitude, the way I see it, he has his degree and his job, she doesn't . The only person she hurt was herself in the long run, and he got out of having to deal with her.

Charlie was here when I got home from school. He was waiting with exciting news. He showed me a pin he recieved today from his Adult High School (he is 19). He is a graduate now! He will walk for the ceremony in May, but he has completed everything and now has his diploma. I am so proud of him. When I was up in Gainsville, there was this guy there named,Marshell. He was a young guy who was really into music. He had shown me a couple hundred mp3 files he had on the computer there and made me some cd's from the songs I chose. I had one made for Charlie with a lot of Jimmy Hendrix and Aerosmith etc on it. Stuff that I knew Charlie really liked. So I gave that to him today as a grad gift. He was overjoyed. That came in handy hehe.

Lisa starts back to school tomorrow. Last night I bought her new school supplies. She was going to start back today but she decided to wait so she could watch Josh for me while I went to school today. Joshua has been out of school for the past three weeks and starts back on weds. He goes to an all year program, so he is in school for 12 weeks and then out for 3 weeks all year long. Their grades level up in June. This is instead of having a long summer break. Studies have shown that the 3 month break for summer causes children to lose a lot of information and then time is wasted on refreshing their memory. This way they continously retain what they are being taught and still get breaks. I like this school system. I told Lisa that I would just take Josh to class with me and let him play on one of the computers in the lab, but she opted to stay home so idiot nor I would be distracted in class.

Yay Heather just got home from school. She got into trouble today. Some girl had threatened to beat her up. Well, Heather is not one of those kids that takes kindly to intimidation tactic's. While she is also not a bully, she just refuses to walk away from a fight or dispute. So today she went up to the girl whose 2 grades above hers (still doesn't matter matter to Heather, the girl could have been 9 ft tall and in high school, packing weapons, she still would have run her natural course) and demanded to know why they were going to fight. See it's just fine that they fight, Heather just wants to be clear on the reason why... sheesh. Well apparently, some teachers overheard her asking the girl why they were going to fight and telling the girl to count on her being there to fight etc. When they tried to intervene and speak to Heather and this other girl about it, Heather walked away. She swears she didnt hear them calling her, I know better. Heather now has to serve saturday school this week. It is your basic slavery punishment. From 8 am til noon on saturday you go to the school and do all the shit work that they can find for you to do. The only reason I am not going to back her up on this is because she was rude to an adult. Otherwise I would already be at the school informing them that they cannot make her come in on a saturday, that they have no fucking authority to tell me what my kids will be doing on my time with them. Official school hours do not include nights or weekends, and I think they have a lot of nerve just deciding that they can use those times to implement a punishment of any kind. Hmmm, I think I will call them afterall and suggest that they give her in-school suspension for a day instead, and remind them who is her Mother and who is just the paid faculty there to promote her education.
